Washington State looks to stay unbeaten

Dec 20, 2007 - 2:15 PM The Citadel (4-5) at No. 6 Washington St (9-0) 10:30 pm EST

PULLMAN, Washington (Ticker) -- Sixth-ranked Washington State looks to win its 10th straight to start the campaign when it hosts The Citadel on Thursday.

The Cougars are off to their best start since opening the 1991-92 season with 12 straight wins, and their ranking is the highest in school history.

The key to Washington State's success has been its defense. The Cougars are allowing 52.4 points points per game - second best in the nation, while also only committing 11.8 turnovers per contest.

Four Cougars average in double figures led by point guard Derrick Low, who is scoring 12.4 points per contest.

The Citadel's roster features 14 freshman, including leading scorer Cameron Wells, who is scoring 15.7 points per game. The only senior on the team and second-leading scorer Demetrius Nelson missed the Bulldogs' last game and will be out for four weeks with a foot injury.

Washington State has not played since a 72-60 victory over Portland State on December 9.
