Vanderbilt faces Tennessee State after long layoff

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- No. 17 Vanderbilt is off to its best start since the 2003-04 season, but will have to shake off some rust if it wants to stay unbeaten on Saturday when it takes on Tennessee State.

The Commodores have been off since posting a 91-85 triumph over DePaul on December 12. Vanderbilt showed some toughness, battling back from a 12-point halftime deficit.

Vanderbilt is off to its best start since opening 12-0 in 2003-04.

Shan Foster is averaging 20.3 points to pace the Commodores. A.J. Ogilvy, a 6-10 freshman center from Australia, averages 19.5 points and a team-high 6.6 rebounds.

Vanderbilt will begin a six-game homestand against the Tigers, who allow 82.7 points per game. Tennessee State is playing the fifth of six consecutive road games.

Tennessee State is coming off an 82-71 loss to Belmont on Monday.

The Commodores have won all five games in the series, which has been played exclusively at Vanderbilt.
