Pittsburgh faces Dayton with perfect record on line

Dec 29, 2007 - 2:29 PM No. 6 Pittsburgh (11-0) at Dayton (10-1) 8:00 pm EST

DAYTON, Ohio (Ticker) - Sixth-ranked Pittsburgh will look to start a season with 12 consecutive victories for the third time in five years on Saturday against Dayton.

The Panthers haven't played since a 65-64 overtime victory over Duke on December 20, the first time since the 1998-99 campaign that Pittsburgh defeated a non-conference team in the regular season that was ranked in the top 10.

In that game, senior guard Mike Cook suffered a torn ACL and will miss the rest of the season. Cook had been averaging 10.4 points per game.

Junior forward Sam Young averages a team-high 17.7 points for the Panthers. Freshman center DeJuan Blair averages 12.1 points and a team-high 10.1 rebounds, while junior guard Levance Fields averages 11.8 points. Pittsburgh is winning by an average of 21.5 points.

The teams met for the first time last season. Dayton carried a 10-1 record into the contest, but dropped an 84-54 decision and proceeded to lose 11 of its last 20 games.

Senior guard Brian Roberts averages 18.2 points and 4.5 assists for the Flyers. Freshman forward Chris Wright averages 12.5 points and 7.1 rebounds for Dayton.
