Georgetown looks to bounce back against American

Dec 29, 2007 - 2:41 PM American (7-5) at No. 8 Georgetown (8-1) 1:00 pm EST

WASHINGTON (Ticker) - No. 8 Georgetown has had a week to think about its first loss of the season.

The Hoyas host American on Saturday in their first game since losing at second-ranked Memphis last Saturday. Georgetown went into the game with an 8-0 record for the first time under John Thompson III.

The Hoyas leads the all-time series with the Eagles, 40-8, but the teams haven't met since the 1986-87 season. Georgetown has not lost a home game to American since the 1982-83 campaign, its only loss in the last 12 meetings.

Roy Hibbert continues to pace the Hoyas in scoring and rebounding, but the 7-2 senior center had only six points and six rebounds in 27 minutes and was a non-factor against the Tigers. On the season, Hibbert is averaging 12 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.

Sophomore forward DaJuan Summers is averaging 11.8 points and 6.3 rebounds on the season for Georgetown, but is averaging 16.6 points in his last three games.

American's reward for a 67-59 victory at Maryland is the contest with the Hoyas. The Eagles are paced by junior guards Derrick Mercer and Garrison Carr. Mercer averages 15.4 points and Carr 15.3 for American. Junior forward Bryce Simon scored a career-high 17 points against the Terrapins.
