Marquette looks to continue winning ways against Savannah State

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) - No. 13 Marquette faces Savannah State on Saturday in its last non-conference game before Big East play begins.

The Golden Eagles have won five straight games, including an 89-42 victory over Coppin State on December 21. Marquette connected on a season-high 56 percent of its shots that day.

Four Golden Eagles starters average in double figures. Junior guards Dominic Jones and Jerel McNeal average 15.1 points and 14.8 points, respectively. Sophomore forward Lazar Hayward averages 13.1 points and 6.1 rebounds, while junior guard Wesley Matthews averages 10.2 points.

The Tigers' 62-59 victory over High Point on December 21 snapped a four-game losing streak. Savannah State has no players averaging in double figures. Chris Linton, a 6-foot-6 junior forward, averages a team-high 9.5 points and 6.2 rebounds for the Tigers.

Marquette averages 81.2 points per game, compared to 59.9 points for Savannah State. The Golden Eagles lead the series, 2-0.
