Texas looks to respond from first loss against Wisconsin

Dec 29, 2007 - 3:42 PM Wisconsin (9-2) at No. 9 Texas (12-1) 12:00 pm EST

AUSTIN, Texas (Ticker) - After suffering their first loss of the season, No. 9 Texas looks to get back on track when it hosts Wisconsin on Saturday.

Despite 24 points from A.J. Abrams and 22 from D.J. Augustine, Texas couldn't overcome just 39 percent shooting from the floor and trailed at halftime for the first time this season en route to a 78-72 setback to then-No. 10 Michigan State last Saturday.

It was the seventh time Abrams and Augustine scored 20 points or more this season. The pair of guards lead the Longhorns offense, combining to average 39 points and just over seven assists per game.

Rebounding from a loss won't be easy as Texas holds just a 1-3 record all-time against Wisconsin. The Badgers claimed a 61-45 home victory over then No. 10 Texas the last time the two teams met in December, 1999.

However, Wisconsin has struggled against ranked teams this season, falling to then-No. 7 Duke and then-No. 15 Marquette earlier this season.

But the Badgers enter the game on a three-game winning streak - including a 68-58 triumph over Valparaiso last Saturday as Trevon Hughes led the way with 14 points, sinking four 3-pointers.

Hughes has logged 20 or more points just twice this season but leads Wisconsin in scoring, averaging 15.1 points while adding four rebounds and nearly three assists per game.
