Texas faces TCU looking to snap two-game losing streak

Jan 2, 2008 - 1:56 PM TCU (8-4) at No. 14 Texas (11-2) 5:00 pm EST

AUSTIN, Texas (Ticker) -- No. 14 Texas tries to avoid its third straight loss Wednesday when it faces TCU.

After opening the season with 11 consecutive wins, the Longhorns have lost to Michigan State and Wisconsin - a pair of Big Ten teams - in their last two games.

On Saturday, the Longhorns endured a 67-66 loss to Wisconsin as Michael Flowers made a 3-pointer with two seconds remaining.

Sophomore swingman Damion James scored 21 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for Texas. A.J. Abrams scored 17 points and scored the Longhorns' final three points, but missed the first of two free throws on his only trip to the line that would have given Texas a three-point lead before Flowers' final shot.

Sophomore guard D.J. Augustin leads the Longhorns in scoring at 19.8 points per game, followed by Abrams (18.8), James (12.5) and junior center/forward Connot Atchley (12.0).

Freshman forward Gary Johnson has been cleared to play for the Longhorns against TCU. Johnson has been allowed to practice, but had been held out of games this season as doctors monitored an unspecified heart condition.

TCU had its four-game winning streak stopped Saturday with a 70-65 setback to Rice. In the game, Rice had more offensive rebounds (23) than TCU had total rebounds (20).

Junior guard Henry Salter leads the Horned Frogs in scoring (14.9 points per game) and rebounds (6.1 rebounds per game). Junior forward Kevin Langford averages 14.3 points and Brent Hackett 11.4 for TCU.
