No. 13 Pittsburgh looks to rebound against Lafayette

Jan 2, 2008 - 1:58 PM Lafayette (8-4) at No. 13 Pittsburgh (11-1) 7:00 pm EST

PITTSBURGH (Ticker) - Coming off its first loss, No. 13 Pittsburgh faces Lafayette on Wednesday.

The Panthers come into the contest off a 25-point loss at No. 23 Dayton on Saturday as Brian Roberts scored 31 points for the Flyers. But that wasn't the only bad news Pittsburgh received from this past weekend.

On Sunday, Pittsburgh learned that starting point guard Levance Fields will miss eight to 12 weeks after breaking his foot early in the second half of Saturday's contest. The Panthers' second leading scorer joins senior forward Mike Cook - who tore his ACL on December 20 - as the second starter to be sidelined for an extended period of time.

Junior forward Sam Young leads Pittsburgh in scoring at 17.5 points per game and also averages 7.3 rebounds. Freshman forward DeJuan Blair is scoring 11.8 for the Panthers.

Lafayette also comes into the game off a loss, an 88-76 defeat to Robert Morris on Sunday. The loss ended the Leopards' three-game winning streak.

Junior guard Andrew Brown, who has started nine of 11 games, averages a team-high 18.3 points for Lafayette. Senior guard Bilal Abdullah averages 12.9 points for the Leopards.

The Panthers will close out their non-conference schedule against the Leopards. Pittsburgh leads the all-time series, 14-6, and hasn't loss to Lafayette since the 1971-72 season.
