Rhode Island closes out non-conference schedule

Jan 2, 2008 - 2:06 PM Fairleigh Dickinson (4-6) at No. 22 Rhode Island (13-1) 7:00 pm EST

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island (Ticker) - Rhode Island caps its non-conference schedule on Wednesday when they host Fairleigh Dickinson.

The No. 22 Rams are currently on an eight-game winning streak and are off to their best start since the 1946-47 season, when the team opened 15-1.

The game will be the final tune-up before Rhode Island opens up Atlantic-10 conference play on January 9 at No. 23 Dayton.

Senior forward Will Daniels leads the Rams in scoring at 18.9 points per game, including a 28-point effort in Saturday's 85-80 win over Georgia Southern. Junior Jimmy Baron - son of the coach Jim Baron - is second on the team in scoring, averaging 15.2 points per contest.

Fairleigh Dickinson - out of the Northeast Conference - is coming off a 65-59 loss at Charlotte on Sunday.

The Knights - who have won three of four - are led by Sean Baptiste and Manny Ubilla, who are averaging 18.6 and 18.3 points per game, respectively.

The Rams lead the all-time series 3-0, including a 115-66 victory in November of 1996.
