Reynolds, Villanova open conference play vs. DePaul
Jan 3, 2008 - 3:06 PM No. 16 Villanova (10-1) at Depaul (4-7) 9:00 pm ESTCHICAGO (Ticker) - Villanova sophomore guard Scottie Reynolds burst onto the scene last season against DePaul.
Reynolds will look for similar results when the 16th-ranked Wildcats aim for a seventh straight win vs. the Blue Demons on Thursday in the Big East Conference opener for both teams.
The reigning Big East Rookie of the Year, Reynolds averaged 8.0 points in his first 12 collegiate games last season before exploding for 25 points against DePaul in a 73-65 loss on January 6 of last season.
That game did not turn out the way Villanova wanted it to, but Reynolds will look to help it get revenge. Reynolds, who is leading the Wildcats with averages of 17.0 points and 4.6 assists, scored 19 points in a 71-58 win over La Salle on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Blue Demons dropped five straight before notching a pair of wins over La Salle and Detroit. They certainly have been tested though, as Villanova will be the fourth ranked team DePaul has played.
Draelon Burns scored 19 points in a 70-64 win over Detroit on Saturday for the Blue Demons, who have split two meetings with the Wildcats since joining the Big East in 2005-06.
