Arizona looking to continue winning ways vs. Oregon
Jan 5, 2008 - 2:17 PM Oregon (9-3) at No. 21 Arizona (10-3) 2:00 pm ESTTUCSON, Arizona (Ticker) -- After getting back on track, No. 21 Arizona tries to win its second Pac-10 Conference game in three days when it hosts Oregon on Saturday.
Arizona suffered just its third loss this season against then-No. 2 Memphis on Sunday. However, the Wildcats responded, posting a decisive 76-63 victory over Oregon State when the two teams opened conference play on Thursday.
Jordan Hill had 20 points and 14 rebounds in the victory while Chase Budinger scored 18 of his 20 points in the second half, leading Arizona to its seventh win in eight games.
Despite coming out on top, Arizona trailed nearly the entire first half and the first eight minutes of the second. Both Hill and Budinger know that slow starts could hinder the Wildcats in Pac-10 play.
"The Pac-10 is a tough conference," Hill said. "We've got to come out and be ready to play."
"When we play top-notch teams, (slow starts) are going to hurt us," Budinger said.
Oregon has lost three of its last four games, including a 62-54 setback at Arizona State in its conference opener Thursday. Malik Hairston scored 14 points to lead the Ducks, who squandered a six-point lead with under eight minutes remaining.
