Vanderbilt puts undefeated record on the line vs. Massachusetts
Jan 5, 2008 - 2:31 PM Massachusetts (11-2) at No. 15 Vanderbilt (14-0) 4:00 pm ESTNASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- No. 15 Vanderbilt puts its undefeated record on the line when it hosts Massachusetts on Saturday.
Vanderbilt continued its perfect start on Thursday, posting a 76-58 victory over Rice. Shan Foster scored 24 points to lead the Commodores. He paces the team in scoring at 20.1 points per contest.
Despite scoring a season-low in points against Rice, Vanderbilt stepped up its play on the defensive end. The Commodores had allowed an average of 76.0 points this season and allowed its previous two opponents, Iona and Tennessee-Martin to shoot 49 percent from the floor.
"We didn't shoot well, but that's OK," Vanderbilt coach Kevin Stalling said. "We played at a good level of intensity defensively."
Massachusetts extended its winning streak to six games with a 95-89 victory over Houston on Thursday. Gary Forbes scored 19 points to pace UMass.
