Michigan State looks to win 10th straight in Big Ten opener

EAST LANSING, Michigan (Ticker) -- No. 6 Michigan State looks for its 10th consecutive victory on Saturday it faces Minnesota in the Big Ten Conference opener for both teams.

The Spartans have won their last five conference home openers. They have not opened their conference slate at home since 2003. This marks the first Big Ten game for Minnesota coach Tubby Smith.

Sophomore forward Raymar Morgan continues to lead the Spartans in scoring at 17.4 points. Senior guard Drew Neitzel averages 14.5 points and 4.6 assists, while junior center Goran Suton averages 9.3 points and 8.2 rebounds.

Michigan State has won six of the last seven games and 11 of the last 14 against Minnesota.

The Golden Gophers are coming off an 81-64 loss at Nevada-Las Vegas on Sunday.

Three starters average double figures for the Golden Gophers, including senior Dan Coleman's team-leading totals in scoring (14.8 points per game) and rebounding (6.0 per game).

Sophomore guard Lawrence Westbrook averages 10.7 points and senior center Spencer Tollackson 10.1 points for Minnesota.
