Marquette goes for eighth straight win against West Virginia

Jan 6, 2008 - 3:05 PM No. 11 Marquette (11-1) at West Virginia (10-3) 2:00 pm EST

MORGANTOWN, West Virginia (Ticker) - Marquette is riding high on a seven-game winning streak but will have to do something they haven't done in nearly a month to win its eighth in a row - play on the road.

No. 11 Marquette looks to go 2-0 in the Big East when they visit the Mountaineers of West Virginia on Sunday.

The Golden Eagles (11-1, 1-0 Big East) finished up with a five-game home stand with a 96-67 victory over Providence in their conference opener on Thursday. Marquette has not played a road game since an 81-76 victory over Wisconsin on December 8.

Dominic James scored 21 points in Thursday's victory and leads the team in scoring at 15.3 points per game.

West Virginia (10-3, 0-1) has lost its last two contests, including a 69-56 setback at Notre Dame on Thursday. The two losses follow an eight-game winning streak that the Mountaineers once enjoyed under first-year coach Bob Huggins, who is looking for his first conference win at his alma mater.

Alex Ruoff is scoring 16.2 points per game, while Joe Alexander is netting 15.4 per contest.

Marquette won the only meeting last season, 81-63, at home.
