Duke looks to deal Temple another loss

PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) - Temple will try to break a seven-game losing streak against No. 7 Duke on Wednesday when the teams meet in a non-conference game at the Wachovia Center.

The Owls have defeated the Blue Devils only once in the last 10 meetings, last winning in the 1995-96 season. Duke leads the all-time series, 16-9, and has won both previous games played at this venue.

The Blue Devils have played only once since their only loss of the season, 65-64, in overtime to Pittsburgh at Madison Square Garden on December 20. Senior guard DeMarcus Russell scored a team-high 23 points and went over the 1,000-point mark for his career in an 81-67 win over Cornell on Sunday.

Nelson is averaging 13.8 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists for Duke. Freshman forward Kyle Singler averages 13.4 points and 6.2 rebounds, while sophomore guard Gerald Henderson averages 13.3 points for the Blue Devils.

Junior swingman Martynas Pocius will be out for the remainder of the season after undergoing left ankle surgery on Tuesday. In addition, 7-foot-1 sophomore center Brian Zoubek is out indefinitely after fracturing his left foot in practice on Monday.

Junior guard Dionte Christmas leads the Owls and the Atlantic-10 in scoring at 20.9 points per game. Christmas also leads Temple in rebounding (6.5 rpg), three-pointers (38) and the A-10 with an average of 37.2 minutes played.

Senior guard Mark Tyndale is averaging 14.8 points and 6.2 rebounds. Tyndale leads the Owls with 35 assists and 22 steals.
