No. 15 Ole Miss tries to rebound against LSU

Jan 12, 2008 - 2:52 PM LSU (7-8) at No. 15 Ole Miss (13-1) 6:00 pm EST

OXFORD, Mississippi (Ticker) -- No. 15 Mississippi looks to bounce back from its first loss of the season when it visits Louisiana State in a Southeastern Conference game on Saturday.

The Rebels (13-1, 0-1 SEC West) are coming off an 85-83 loss at No. 9 Tennessee in their conference opener on Wednesday. Ole Miss had a four-point lead with two minutes to play, but couldn't hold on as Tyler Smith scored the game-winning basket with four seconds to play.

Freshman guard Chris Warren, who scored a career-high 24 points against the Volunteers, leads the Rebels with 15.9 points and 5.4 assists per game.

The Tigers (7-8, 0-1 West) have been bit by the injury bug, dressed no more than nine players in their last two games. Tasmin Mitchell, the team's leading scorer last season, played in only three games before surgery for a stress fracture likely ended his season.

Junior guard Marcus Thornton averages a team-high 17.1 points for LSU, which has lost six of its last eight games. The Tigers are coming off a 61-39 loss to Mississippi State on Wednesday. LSU shot just 21 percent (14-of-66).

The teams met three times last season with Ole Miss winning twice, including an 80-60 victory in the SEC tournament. The Tigers lead the all-time series, 113-79.
