Saint Louis looks to bounce back against red-hot Dayton

Jan 12, 2008 - 3:25 PM No. 22 Dayton (13-1) at Saint Louis (9-6) 8:00 pm EST

ST LOUIS (Ticker) -- After setting a dubious NCAA mark for the fewest points scored in a game in the shot clock era, Saint Louis will hope for to improve on its Atlantic 10-worst offense when it hosts No. 22 Dayton on Saturday.

In their embarrassing 49-20 conference-opening loss to George Washington on Thursday, the Billikens managed just three field goals in the first half en route to the worst offensive output in a Division I basketball game.

The previous low since the shot clock was introduced in 1985-86 was 21 points by Georgia Southern in a loss to Coastal Carolina in 1997.

Saint Louis (9-6, 0-1 Atlantic 10) missed 23 consecutive shots at one point and finished shooting just 15 percent (7-of-48), including 1-for-19 from 3-point range.

On the other end of the spectrum are the Flyers (13-1, 1-0), who have eclipsed 80 points in each of their last four games. One of the biggest reasons for their success thus far is their proficiency from the arc, where they are shooting a Atlantic 10-best 43 percent (87-for-203) for the season.

Dayton won its 12th consecutive game on Wednesday when it defeated No. 20 Rhode Island, 92-83. Senior guard Brian Roberts scored 23 points and hit three 3-pointers for the Flyers, who shot 52 percent (11-for-21) from the arc.

The victory gave the Flyers their longest winning streak since a 19-game run bridging the 1967-68 and 1968-69 seasons.
