Duke hosts Virginia in ACC opener

Jan 13, 2008 - 2:35 PM Virginia (10-3) at No. 7 Duke (12-1) 8:00 pm EST

DURHAM, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Seventh-ranked Duke looks to continue its home dominance of Virginia when the teams open their Atlantic Coast Conference schedule Sunday.

The Devils have won the last 11 meetings at Cameron Indoor Stadium dating to 1995 and are 45-8 all-time against Virginia at home.

DeMarcus Nelson leads a balanced attack, scoring 13.7 points per game. Duke has six players averaging at least 9.1 points, including two freshman - Kyle Singler (13.0) and Taylor King (10.2).

The Blue Devils, who have won two straight games, were defeated by the Cavaliers, 68-66, last season - snapping a nine-game winning streak against Virginia.

Senior Sean Singletary made the game-winning basket with one second left in overtime in last season's victory and the guard leads the Cavaliers, scoring 17.8 points and handing out 6.8 assists per game.

Virginia has not played since an embarrassing 108-70 loss at Xavier on January 3, which snapped a four-game winning streak.

The Cavaliers won last season's ACC opener over North Carolina State, which was their first conference opening win in 12 seasons.
