Michigan State looks to bounce back against Ohio State

Jan 15, 2008 - 2:50 PM Ohio State (12-4) at No. 11 Michigan State (14-2) 7:00 pm EST

EAST LANSING, Michigan (Ticker) -- No. 11 Michigan State attempts to bounce back from its first Big Ten Conference loss of the season on Tuesday when it faces Ohio State.

Michigan State (14-2, 2-1 Big Ten) had its 11-game winning streak stopped Saturday with a disappointing 43-36 loss at Iowa.

The Spartans, second in the Big Ten in scoring offense at 77.7 points per game, had just 18 points over the final 28:52. Michigan State went 16-of-52 from the field overall, hit just one free throw and committed 18 turnovers.

"All I can say is that it's ... an embarrassing loss the way we played," Spartans coach Tom Izzo said. "I didn't think we had one guy that played even close to capable. We missed layups, we missed free throws, and we just couldn't find a way to get over the hump."

Sophomore forward Raymar Morgan leads Michigan State in scoring at 17.6 points per game, but scored only 10 in the loss to the Hawkeyes.

The Buckeyes (12-4, 3-1) had their 19-game conference winning streak snapped on Saturday in a 75-68 loss at Purdue. Senior guard Jamar Butler scored 26 points and had a career-high six 3-pointers for Ohio State, which had an eight-game winning streak stopped.

Michigan State leads the series, 59-49.
