North Carolina looks for another easy win vs. Georgia Tech

Jan 16, 2008 - 3:02 PM No. 1 North Carolina (17-0) at Georgia Tech (7-8) 9:00 pm EST

ATLANTA (Ticker) - Top-ranked North Carolina has ridden a relatively easy schedule to a perfect start this season.

North Carolina continues the trend of soft opponents when it visits Georgia Tech on Wednesday.

The Tar Heels (17-0, 2-0 ACC) have played six games against teams currently below .500 this season. North Carolina has also faced just one team currently ranked in the Top 25, narrowly edging No. 19 Clemson, 90-88, in its conference-opener on January 6.

During their last game, the Tar Heels used a 34-4 run to take a 30-point lead into the locker room against North Carolina State. Lightning-quick point guard Ty Lawson scored 16 points as North Carolina picked up its ninth win in 10 games against the Wolfpack, 93-62, on Saturday.

Lawson leads the Tar Heels with 5.7 assists while scoring 13.6 points per game and has helped run a North Carolina offense which ranks second in the nation in scoring at 92.2 points a contest.

Georgia Tech (7-8, 0-2) is looking to snap a two-game losing streak on Wednesday after suffering a 78-68 setback to Miami in its second Atlantic Coast Conference meeting of the season.

Jeremis Smith logged his third double-double of the season against the Hurricanes, scoring a season-high 21 points while grabbing 10 rebounds for the Yellow Jackets. The senior forward is averaging just 9.8 points but is pulling down a team-high 7.2 rebounds per game.
