Scoreboard to get a workout in Vanderbilt-Tennessee contest

Jan 17, 2008 - 2:32 PM No. 14 Vanderbilt (16-1) at No. 7 Tennessee (14-1) 7:00 pm EST

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Expect plenty of offense on Thursday when No. 7 Tennessee hosts No. 14 Vanderbilt in an SEC Conference game.

The Volunteers (14-1, 2-0 East) average 86.7 points, just ahead of the Commodores (16-1, 1-1 East) at 86.0 points per game. Tennessee leads the SEC with an average of 9.73 3-pointers and Vanderbilt is second at 9.29 per game.

The Volunteers have matched their best start in school history, last done in the 2000-01 season. That also was the last time Tennessee started 3-0 in the SEC.

Senior guard JaJuan Smith leads the Volunteers in scoring at 14.9 points per game, but is averaging 18.0 points in SEC play. Senior guard Chris Lofton averages 13.5 points and sophomore forward Tyler Smith, a transfer from Iowa, averages 13.3.

Senior swingman Shan Foster leads the Commodores at 20.6 points per game. Freshman center Andrew Ogilvy averages 19.4 points and 7.1 rebounds.

"Ogilvy is a dominant big man in our league, only as a freshman," Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl said. "He's an Olympian. He's going to be a professional basketball player some day."

Tennessee has won three of the last four meetings and leads the all-time series, 105-66.
