Washington State looks to rebound against Oregon State

Jan 17, 2008 - 2:47 PM Oregon St (6-10) at No. 8 Washington St (14-1) 10:00 pm EST

PULLMAN, Washington (Ticker) -- Looking to bounce back from its first loss of the season, eighth-ranked Washington State hosts struggling Oregon State on Thursday.

The Cougars (14-1, 2-1 Pac-10) dropped an 81-74 decision to then-No. 5 UCLA on Saturday, leaving them three wins shy of the best start in school history and marking the first time that Washington State allowed 80 points in a game this season.

But despite the rare defensive letdown, Washington State still leads the nation allowing just 52.5 points per contest.

Senior guard Derrick Low tied a season high with six 3-pointers in the loss and is now just three points away from becoming the 29th Cougar to score 1,000 in his career. Low averages 13.5 points to lead the team.

The Beavers (6-10, 0-4) come in losers of six straight for the first time since dropping seven in a row from January 18-February 4 of last season. Oregon State also is winless through four games in the conference for the second consecutive season.

Oregon State has failed to score 60 points in each of its last three games, including a 69-59 defeat to California on Saturday.

Seth Tarver and Marcel Jones are the only two players averaging in double figures for the Beavers, scoring 12.9 and 11.9 points per game, respectively.

Washington State swept both games from Oregon State last season, including a 70-55 victory at home.
