Arizona State goes for 10th straight win

Jan 17, 2008 - 2:54 PM No. 25 Arizona St (13-2) at California (11-4) 10:30 pm EST

BERKELEY, California (Ticker) - No. 25 Arizona State seeks its 10th straight win when it visits California in a Pac-10 Conference matchup Thursday.

The Sun Devils (13-2, 3-0 Pac-10) are off to their first 3-0 start in the conference since winning the first four contests during the 1987-88 campaign.

A win would be the first 10-game winning streak since 1963 for the Sun Devils, who are ranked in the top 25 for the first time since 1995.

It is an amazing turnaround for Arizona State, which went 2-16 in the Pac-10 and lost 15 straight games at one point during the season.

Freshman James Harden has been a big part of the reason, averaging 18.2 points, including a season-high 26 in a 64-59 overtime victory against Arizona on January 9.

California (11-4, 2-2), which is coming off a 69-59 victory at Oregon State on Saturday, is led by the bruising sophomore Ryan Anderson.

The 6-10 power forward leads the Pac-10 in scoring at 20.7 points per game. He collected 17 points and 17 rebounds in Saturday's win. It was the seventh double-double of the campaign for Anderson, who also leads the Bears in rebounding at 9.6 per contest.

The Bears and Sun Devils split the two meetings last season. Arizona State posted a 42-41 win here.
