Vanderbilt looks to get back on track against LSU

Jan 19, 2008 - 1:52 PM LSU (7-10) at No. 14 Vanderbilt (16-2) 1:00 pm EST

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) - Conference play has not gone as well as the non-conference schedule went for Vanderbilt.

The 14th-ranked Commodores look to get back on track in the Southeastern Conference when they host Louisiana State on Saturday.

Vanderbilt (16-2, 1-2 SEC East) got off to the best start in school history by winning its first 16 games of the season. However, the Commodores have dropped their last two contests, including an embarrassing 80-60 defeat at No. 7 Tennessee on Thursday.

The Commodores shot just 3-of-21 from the arc and 37 percent from the floor overall in the loss.

"That was not a lot of fun," Commodores coach Kevin Stallings said. "Games are intended to be fun, and we just didn't give ourselves a chance. We had some opportunities to make it interesting, but each time we missed the shot.

Shan Foster was 1-of-11 from the 3-point line but the senior continues to lead the team in scoring at 20.2 points per contest.

LSU (7-10, 0-3 West) is currently on a six-game losing streak after dropping a 74-67 decision to Auburn on Wednesday.

Junior-college transfer Marcus Thornton tied a season high with 27 points in the loss but made just 6-of-16 shots from the arc. The 6-4 guard does lead the team in scoring at 18.2 points per game.
