No. 24 Miami hoping to end conference road futility

Jan 19, 2008 - 2:44 PM No. 24 Miami, Fla. (14-2) at N.C. State (11-5) 8:00 pm EST

RALEIGH, North Carolina (Ticker) - No. 24 Miami will again attempt to win its first Atlantic Coast Conference road game in more than a year on Saturday when it faces North Carolina State.

The road futility for the Hurricanes (14-2, 1-1 ACC) reached eight games with a 76-66 loss on Tuesday at Boston College. Miami shot a season-low 31.6 percent against the Eagles.

"We came out with a nonchalant attitude and didn't execute as well as we should have. That attitude put us in a hole," said leading scorer Jack McClinton, who finished with 20 points. "It's on us. There's really nothing the coaches can do. We have to prepare for the challenge."

McClinton, a junior guard, averages 15.7 points. Sophomore guard James Dews averages 12.1 points for the Hurricanes, who haven't won an ACC road game since beating Maryland on January 10, 2007.

Miami has a home contest looming against top-ranked North Carolina on Wednesday. The Wolfpack (11-5, 0-2) are coming off back-to-back double-digit losses to North Carolina and Clemson. The setbacks followed a seven-game winning streak.

Freshman swingman J.J. Hickson leads the Wolfpack with 15.6 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.

NC State could be without 6-10 center Ben McCauley, who suffered a left ankle injury late in the second half of Tuesday's game against Clemson.
