Michigan State seeks regular-season sweep of Minnesota

Jan 20, 2008 - 2:39 PM No. 11 Michigan St (15-2) at Minnesota (12-4) 4:00 pm EST

MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- Just over two weeks ago, Raymar Morgan helped Michigan State avoid a conference-opening loss with a career game against Minnesota.

Morgan and the 11th-ranked Spartans look to complete a regular-season sweep of the Golden Gophers when the Big Ten Conference rivals meet Sunday at Williams Arena.

Michigan State (15-2, 3-1 Big Ten) beat Minnesota, 65-59, on January 5 in East Lansing behind Morgan's career-high 31 points and 10 rebounds.

With the Spartans holding a 13-point second-half lead, Michigan State held on to a victory when Morgan scored 13 of his team's final 23 points as the Gophers saw a late rally come up short.

However, the sophomore forward will be looking to rebound from his season-worst six-point performance in Michigan State's 66-60 win over Ohio State on Tuesday.

Minnesota (12-4, 2-2) coach Tubby Smith will try for the second time to post victory No. 400 against the Spartans.

Smith's Gophers are coming off a 65-60 setback at Indiana on Thursday after they posted back-to-back wins over Northwestern and Penn State following their loss to the Spartans.

The Spartans have won the last two meetings and seven of eight.
