Washington State looks to break drought against Oregon

Jan 20, 2008 - 2:46 PM Oregon (12-5) at No. 8 Washington St (15-1) 8:00 pm EST

PULLMAN, Washington (Ticker) -- Washington State has not had much success against Oregon in recent years.

The eighth-ranked Cougars look to snap a 13-game losing streak to the Ducks when the Pac-10 Conference teams meet Sunday.

Even with last year's 26-win team, Washington State (15-1, 3-1 Pac-10) dropped both contests to Oregon, including a 77-74 overtime defeat at home.

But this year's Cougars team won their first 14 games of the season for the third-best start in school history. Washington State is coming off a 69-46 victory over Oregon State in its conference home opener on Thursday.

Derrick Low, the Cougars' leading scorer, scored a career-high 37 points - including nine 3-pointers - in last season's home loss to Oregon.

The Ducks (12-5, 3-2) are coming off a 78-70 defeat at Washington on Thursday, snapping a three-game winning streak. Maarty Leunen had 22 points and Malik Hairston netted 20 in the loss.

Washington State's last win in the series came on February 15, 2001.
