Duke looks to continue surge at Virginia Tech

Jan 24, 2008 - 3:38 PM No. 3 Duke (15-1) at Virginia Tech (11-7) 7:00 pm EST

BLACKSBURG, Virginia (Ticker) - On the strength of five straight victories, Duke has risen to its highest ranking of the season.

The third-ranked Blue Devils look to continue their momentum when they visit Atlantic Coast conference foe Virginia Tech on Thursday.

Behind DeMarcus Nelson's 24 points, Duke (15-1, 3-0 ACC) is coming off a 93-80 victory over No. 25 Clemson on Saturday and the Blue Devils come into the game looking for revenge for a loss from last season.

The Hokies (11-7, 2-2) defeated then-No. 5 Duke, 69-67, in overtime at Cameron Indoor Stadium, giving Virginia Tech a key win to help the school eventually make the NCAA Tournament.

Virginia Tech has been a bit inconsistent this season, losing 81-70 to Georgia Tech on Saturday, which snapped a three-game winning streak.

A.D. Vassallo leads three players averaging in double figures at 15.8 points per game for the Hokies, who are 11th out of 12 in the ACC in scoring offense at 67.6 points per game.
