Maryland hosts Duke, looking for second straight upset

Jan 27, 2008 - 2:52 PM No. 3 Duke (16-1) at Maryland (12-7) 6:30 pm EST

COLLEGE PARK, Maryland (Ticker) - After shaking up the Top 25 with a monumental upset last weekend, Maryland aims for its second straight shocker on Sunday when it hosts No. 3 Duke.

Maryland (12-7, 2-2 ACC) upset No. 1 North Carolina, 82-80, on January 20, knocking the Tar Heels from the top spot in the rankings, which they had held until this week.

The Terrapins' defense held North Carolina to just 38 percent shooting from the field and just 30 percent from 3-point range.

Maryland has held eight straight opponents under 40 percent shooting and leads the ACC and is third in the nation in field-goal percentage defense, limiting its foes to just 37 percent this season.

Duke (16-1, 4-0) extended its current winning streak to six games on Thursday, posting a 81-64 victory over Virginia Tech.

Freshman standout Kyle Singler scored nine of his 16 points in the first three minutes of the second half against Virginia Tech. Singler is second on the team, averaging 13.2 points per game and is hitting nearly 60 percent of his shots from 2-point range.
