Marquette looks to extend South Florida losing streak

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) - No. 16 Marquette has dominated its all-time series with South Florida, winning 13 of 15 games.

The two teams meet on Tuesday with the Golden Eagles (14-4, 4-3 Big East) looking to stay within striking distance of the conference's top teams.

Marquette is 3-3 after winning 11 of its 12 games and snapped a two-game losing streak on Saturday with a 79-71 home victory over DePaul, moving the Golden Eagles' home record to 11-0.

"They caught us with a burst in the second half and we never were able to get over the hump," DePaul coach Jerry Wainwright said.

Junior guard Dominic Jones leads a balanced Marquette scoring attack at 14.1 points per game. Junior guard Jerel McNeal averages 13.5 points, sophomore forward Lazar Hayward 12.8 and junior guard Wesley Matthews at 10.8 for the Golden Eagles.

The Bulls (10-10, 1-6) have lost six consecutive games, all in Big East play, including a 80-60 loss to Louisville on Wednesday.

Senior center Kentrell Gransberry leads South Florida with 17.1 points and 10.8 rebounds per game. Freshman guard Dominique Jones averages 15.3 points and sophomore guard Chris Howard averages 10.8 points and 5.4 assists for South Florida.
