No. 17 Drake shoots for 18th consecutive victory

Jan 30, 2008 - 3:50 PM Creighton (14-5) at No. 17 Drake (18-1) 8:05 pm EST

DES MOINES, Iowa (Ticker) - No. 17 Drake looks to extend its school-record winning streak to 18 games against Creighton in a Missouri Valley Conference game.

The Bulldogs (18-1, 9-0 MVC) have won their first nine conference games for the first time since the 1969-70 season. Drake hasn't won 19 games in a season since finishing 19-1 in the 1985-86 campaign.

"I still don't know how good we are, and a lot of people around the conference are probably thinking the same thing," said first-year Bulldogs' coach Keno Davis. "I know we play real well together. Our guys, for some reason, just have an unbelievable amount of confidence at the end of a game."

Sophomore guard Josh Young averages 15.4 points for Drake, which has defeated the Bluejays 19 of the last 24 meetings. Senior guard Leonard Houston averages 14.3 points for the Bulldogs, who are 11-0 at home with an average victory margin of 20.6 points.

The Bluejays (14-5, 5-4) are hoping to avoid losing a third straight game for the first time since February of 2004. Senior forward Dane Watts leads Creighton at 12.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.

The Korver brothers - Drake's Klayton and Creighton's Kaleb - meet for the second time on Wednesday. Senior forward Klayton Korver is averaging 10.3 points, while freshman guard Kaleb Korver is averaging 3.1 points in a reserve role.

The teams are meeting for the second time in nine days. The Bulldogs defeated the Bluejays 68-60 on January 22.
