Vanderbilt, Ole Miss look for turnaround

Jan 30, 2008 - 4:19 PM No. 18 Vanderbilt (17-3) at No. 22 Ole Miss (15-3) 8:00 pm EST

OXFORD, Mississippi (Ticker) -- A pair of struggling teams square off Wednesday, when No. 18 Vanderbilt visits 22nd-ranked Mississippi in a Southeastern Conference game on Wednesday.

Ole Miss (15-3, 2-3 SEC) is coming off consecutive conference losses to Auburn and in-state rival Mississippi State. Vanderbilt (17-3, 2-3) has lost three of its last games, including an 86-64 defeat to Florida on Sunday.

"Both of us were taken to the woodshed a bit in our last games," Mississippi coach Andy Kennedy said. "It'll be interesting to see who can get up off the mat."

Freshman guard Chris Warren leads the Rebels in scoring at 15.8 points per game. Senior center Dwayne Curtis averages 15.2 points and 8.7 rebounds for Missisippi, which is 9-0 at home this season.

Vanderbilt has played three of its first five conference games on the road, losing all three at Kentucky, Tennessee and Florida.

"I think some of it certainly is the competition," Commodores' coach Kevin Stallings said. "We've probably played in three of arguably the toughest road environments in the country in our first three league road games.

"I'm sure that you could take a lot of teams and send them to Kentucky, Tennessee and Florida and they would struggle in those venues against those teams."

Vanderbilt has won the last six games in the series.
