No. 24 Kansas State hopes to avoid letdown against Missouri

Feb 2, 2008 - 12:01 PM No. 24 Kansas St (15-4) at Missouri (12-9) 1:30 pm EST

COLUMBIA, Missouri (Ticker) - Fresh off an emotional victory, No. 24 Kansas State visits Missouri on Saturday in a Big 12 Conference matchup.

The Wildcats (15-4, 5-0 Big 12) ended a 24-year home drought against second-ranked Kansas on Wednesday by posting an 84-75 victory. The freshmen trio of Michael Beasley, Bill Walker and Jacob Pullen combined for 67 points.

"I know it means a lot around the city, people at the school," said Beasley, who's become a candidate for Player of the Year as the nation's leading rebounder and fourth-leading scorer. "But it's just a game to me."

Beasley, a 6-10 forward, leads Kansas State at 25.3 points and 12.4 rebounds. Walker, a 6-6 forward, averages 16.1 points and 6.5 boards.

The Wildcats, who never have won the Big 12 title, are the only team yet to lose in conference play.

The Tigers (12-9, 2-4) have lost four of their last five games, including Wednesday's 66-62 home defeat to Nebraska.

DeMarre Carroll had 15 points and 12 rebounds for Missouri, which played shorthanded against Nebraska.

Guard Stefhon Hannah, the Tigers' leading scorer at 14.7 points per game, is expected to miss the remainder of the season after breaking his jaw in an altercation outside a nightclub last weekend.

Darryl Butterfield, Leo Lyons, Jason Horton and Marshall Brown also suspended for their involvement in the fracas.

"What gets lost is they're still kids," Anderson said. "It'll be evaluated and it's a possibility they will be back in time for the Kansas State game."
