Connecticut goes for fifth straight win in key Big East matchup

Feb 2, 2008 - 12:03 PM No. 21 Pittsburgh (17-4) at Connecticut (15-5) 1:00 pm EST

STORRS, Connecticut (Ticker) - Connecticut looks to continue its momentum when it hosts No. 21 Pittsburgh in a key Big East Conference contest on Saturday.

The Huskies (15-5, 5-3 Big East) have reeled off four consecutive wins, including a 68-63 victory at then-No. 7 Indiana on January 26 and a 69-67 triumph over Louisville on Monday.

Playing without guards Jerome Dyson and Doug Wiggins in the last two games due to a violation of team rules, junior A.J. Price has stepped up, averaging 17.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists. Price scored 20 points against Louisville.

Wiggins practiced with the team on Thursday but Dyson has reportedly failed a drug test for the second time, which would warrant a 30-day suspension.

The Panthers (17-4, 5-3) and the Huskies are two of five teams with identical 5-3 records in the conference. There is also just 1 1/2 games separating second place from 11th place.

Pittsburgh posted a 69-57 victory over Villanova on Wednesday, but is just 4-3 away from home this season.

Sam Young had 15 points and eight rebounds in Wednesday's win, and leads the team in scoring at 18.6 points per contest.

The Panthers won the only meeting between the schools last season, 63-54, in Pittsburgh.
