Georgetown hopes to continue South Florida's losing streak

Feb 5, 2008 - 3:37 PM South Florida (10-12) at No. 6 Georgetown (18-2) 7:30 pm EST

WASHINGTON (Ticker) - The first and last place teams in the Big East Conference meet when sixth-ranked Georgetown hosts struggling South Florida on Tuesday.

The Hoyas (18-2, 8-1 Big East) have won five straight games, including a 73-61 triumph over Seton Hall on Saturday. Jessie Sapp had 17 points while Roy Hibbert and Patrick Ewing Jr. each netted 16. Ewing's point total was a career-high.

Georgetown, which is 11-0 at home this season, is the lone one-loss team in the Big East. Notre Dame is currently in second with a 6-2 conference record.

The Bulls (10-12, 1-8) do not figure to be much of a challenge for Georgetown as South Florida is in the midst of an eight-game losing streak.

The latest setback came at the hands of St. John's, which defeated South Florida, 72-58, on Saturday. Dominique Jones had 24 points to pace the Bulls in the loss.

Kentrell Gransberry leads the conference in rebounding at 10.6 per contest and figures to be a big test for Hibbert in the middle. A senior, Gransberry also leads the team in scoring at 16.7 points per game.

It is the first meeting since South Florida upset then-No. 20 Georgetown, 63-56, on March 4, 2006.
