Drake seeking 20th consecutive victory

Feb 5, 2008 - 3:39 PM No. 15 Drake (20-1) at Illinois St (16-6) 8:05 pm EST

NORMAL, Illinois (Ticker) - At its highest ranking in 37 years, No. 15 Drake looks to continue steamrolling through the Missouri Valley Conference on Tuesday when they visit Illinois State.

The Bulldogs (20-1, 11-0 MWC) have won 19 straight contests since a loss to No. 23 Saint Mary's on November 10. At 15th, Drake is ranked the highest since it climbed to No. 7 in December of 1970.

Drake, which was picked to finish ninth in the 10-team conference, defeated Indiana State, 83-77, on Saturday to remain perfect in conference play. Senior Adam Emmenecker had a career-high 20 points in the victory, while leading scorer Josh Young netted 18.

The Bulldogs currently lead the Missouri Valley Conference by three games over second-place Illinois State, which might be the only team that has a shot of catching them.

The Redbirds (16-6, 8-3) are coming off a 64-63 victory at Missouri State on Saturday and is a perfect 11-0 at home this season.

Dom Johnson had a season-high 23 points and Osiris Eldridge had 17 to lead Illinois State in Saturday's win.

Drake won the first meeting, 79-73, at home on January 19 but the teams have split the season series during the previous two campaigns.
