Top-ranked Memphis guns for 46th straight home victory

Feb 6, 2008 - 2:19 PM SMU (7-12) at No. 1 Memphis (21-0) 9:00 pm EST

MEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) - Southern Methodist will have its collective hands full on Wednesday, traveling to undefeated Memphis for a Conference USA game.

The top-ranked Tigers (21-0, 7-0) remain the nation's lone unbeaten Division I team. Memphis ran its home winning streak to 45 games with a 70-64 victory over Texas-El Paso on Saturday.

It was the closest conference game of the season for the Tigers, who have won 24 consecutive C-USA contests. The Mustangs (7-12, 1-5) have lost four straight to Memphis.

"We'll have to play unbelievably well and they'll have to play unbelievably bad to beat them," SMU coach Matt Doherty said.

The Tigers, who have an average conference victory margin of 22.8 points, are led offensively by junior guard Chris Douglas-Roberts at 17.8 points per game. Senior guard Jon Killen averages 12.8 points for the Mustangs.

SMU has lost four consecutive road games and seven of its last eight games.
