Balanced Xavier aims to stay hot vs. St. Louis

Feb 7, 2008 - 2:58 PM No. 14 Xavier (18-4) at Saint Louis (12-9) 9:00 pm EST

ST. LOUIS (Ticker) -- Xavier's balanced attack will be put to the test Thursday when the 14th-ranked Mountaineers visit defensive-minded St. Louis in an Atlantic-10 Conference game.

Led by an attack that features six players averaging double figures in scoring, Xavier aims for its 11th win in the last 12 games.

Xavier does not have a superstar like Kansas State's Michael Beasley or Indiana's Eric Gordon. Instead, the Musketeers have a bevy of options that are capable of stepping up in crucial situations.

True to form, Xavier (18-4, 6-1 A-10) had six players score in double figures as it posted a 75-62 victory over La Salle on Saturday.

C.J. Anderson led the way with 18 points as the Musketeers improved to 15-0 when four or more players score in double figures.

But Xavier will face a tough St. Louis (12-9, 3-4) team which is allowing just 59 points per game.

The Billikens held Massachusetts to its lowest point total of the season in a 71-59 victory on Saturday. UMass entered that game averaging 84.4 points - sixth-best in the nation.

Xavier leads the series, 22-12. However, St. Louis has won three of the last four meetings - including three straight here.
