North Carolina hopes to be at full strength at Virginia

Feb 12, 2008 - 3:31 PM No. 5 North Carolina (22-2) at Virginia (11-11) 8:00 pm EST

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia (Ticker) - Fifth-ranked North Carolina hopes to be back at full strength when they visit Virginia in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup on Tuesday.

The Tar Heels (22-2, 7-2 ACC) have played their last two games without starting point guard Ty Lawson due to a sprained left ankle. The sophomore is questionable for Tuesday.

North Carolina did prove that it can win without their floor general, coming back from a 15-point second-half deficit on Sunday to defeat Clemson for the 53rd straight time at home, 103-93, in double overtime. The win set a new NCAA record for consecutive home victories against one opponent.

Tyler Hansbrough had a season-high 39 points and 13 rebounds, falling one point short of his career high and Wayne Ellington scored 28 points in the victory.

The Cavaliers (11-11, 1-8), who have lost three overtime games this season, are currently on a six-game losing streak.

Virginia dropped an 80-64 decision at Wake Forest on Saturday and the lowly Cavaliers are now two games out of climbing out of last place in the conference.

Sean Singletary had 21 points in Saturday's loss and is third in the conference in scoring at 18.6 points per game.

The Tar Heels won the only meetings between the two schools last season, 79-69, on January 10.
