Price leads streaking Connecticut against South Florida

Feb 16, 2008 - 11:27 AM No. 17 Connecticut (18-5) at South Florida (10-14) Noon EST

TAMPA, Florida (Ticker) - A.J. Price finally is living up to his potential and No. 17 Connecticut is reaping the benefits.

Price looks to lead the Huskies to a ninth straight win when they visit South Florida on Saturday in a Big East Conference contest.

Last season, Price struggled and the Huskies (19-5, 8-3 Big East) failed to make any kind of postseason tournament for the first time since 1986-87.

But the 6-2 point guard is making up for lost time and is averaging 18.6 points and 6.1 assists during the winning streak, which has returned UConn to national relevance.

On Wednesday, Price scored 26 points with a season-high nine assists in leading Connecticut to an 84-78 home win over Notre Dame. What is more impressive is that Price has carried the team in the absence of fellow guard Jerome Dyson, who is suspended indefinitely.

Price and the Huskies must beware of a South Florida (11-14, 2-10) team that looks harmless, but is coming off an 89-78 win over Syracuse on Wednesday.

Dominique Jones scored 29 points to help the Bulls snap a 10-game losing streak.
