No. 3 Kansas looks to extend dominance of Colorado

Feb 16, 2008 - 11:28 AM Colorado (10-13) at No. 3 Kansas (23-2) 1:45 pm EST

LAWRENCE, Kansas (Ticker) - Back atop the Big 12 Conference standings, No. 3 Kansas faces Colorado on Saturday with the simple goal of staying there.

Despite a three-point loss at No. 11 Texas on Monday, the Jayhawks (23-2, 8-2) remain one-half ahead of the Longhorns and No. 22 Kansas State. It was just the second loss for Kansas in its last 33 regular-season games.

The Jayhawks, who are 17-0 at home this season, have won 10 straight and 37 of the last 38 games against the Buffaloes (10-13, 2-7).

Sophomore forward Darrell Arthur leads Kansas at 14 points per game. Senior forward Darnell Jackson averages 12.4 points, junior guard Brandon Rush 12.3 and junior guard Mario Chalmers 12.1.

Colorado snapped a six-game losing streak with a 72-58 home victory over Oklahoma last Saturday, but is 0-4 on the road in conference play. First-year coach Jeff Bzdelik already has surpassed the Buffaloes' seven-win total of a year ago.

Senior guard Richard Roby leads Colorado at 17.1 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.

More than 200 former players, coaches and staff will be on hand to celebrate 110 years of Kansas basketball. Former players and staff will represent the Phog Allen (1908-56), Dick Harp (1957-64), Ted Owens (1965-83), Larry Brown (1984-88), Roy Williams (1989-2003) and Bill Self (2004-present) eras.

Included will be a tribute to the Jayhawks' 1988 team, which won the NCAA's 50th men's basketball championship. The current Kansas players will wear blue retro 1988 uniforms Saturday.
