No. 15 Drake again tries to clinch tie for MVC title
Feb 16, 2008 - 11:29 AM No. 15 Drake (22-2) at Northern Iowa (15-10) 2:05 pm ESTCEDAR FALLS, Iowa (Ticker) - No. 15 Drake will make its second attempt at clinching at least a tie for the Missouri Valley Conference title against Northern Iowa on Saturday .
The Bulldogs (22-2, 13-1) had a 21-game winning streak snapped Wednesday with a 65-62 loss at Southern Illinois, temporarily halting Drake's chances to win its first conference title since 1971. The Bulldogs had three chances to tie the game in the final 10 seconds.
Sophomore guard Josh Young is averaging 16 points and senior guard Leonard Houston 14.3 points for Drake, which is three games ahead of Illinois State with four conference games remaining.
The Panthers (15-10, 7-7) snapped a two-game losing streak with a 77-75 home victory over Wichita State on Wednesday. Northern Iowa is 5-2 in the conference at home and 10-4 overall.
Senior center Eric Coleman is averaging 11.6 points and 8.4 rebounds for Northern Iowa. On January 26, the Bulldogs defeated the visiting Panthers, 58-54.
