Texas A&M shooting for sixth straight win

Feb 16, 2008 - 11:30 AM Oklahoma St (12-12) at No. 16 Texas A&M (20-4) 3:30 pm EST

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (Ticker) -- No. 16 Texas A&M needs a victory on Saturday against Oklahoma State to have a realistic chance at the Big 12 Conference title.

The Aggies (20-4, 6-3) are looking up at Kansas, Texas and Kansas State in the race for the regular-season championship. Texas A&M has won five straight games, including a 77-69 victory at Missouri last Saturday.

The two teams met January 26 in Stillwater, with the Aggies pulling out a 59-56 victory, which started the current winning streak.

Junior swingman Josh Carter is averaging 13.3 points and senior center Joseph Jones 11.3 for Texas A&M. The Aggies are 15-1 at home this season, only losing to Baylor in five overtimes.

The Cowboys (12-12, 3-7) are only 2-7 in their last nine games, but are coming off a 93-83 upset of Baylor on Wednesday. Junior guard Byron Eaton, who is averaging 10.4 points, matched his career high with 25 points in the victory.

Freshman swingman James Anderson leads Oklahoma State in scoring at 14.9 points per game. The Cowboys are 0-5 in conference road games and 0-7 overall.

At halftime, Texas A&M will retire the No. 1 jersey of former player Acie Law IV. The No. 11 pick by the Atlanta Hawks in 2007, Law led the Aggies to a school-record 27 victories last season.
