Washington State seeks rare win at Oregon

Feb 16, 2008 - 1:03 PM No. 20 Washington St (19-5) at Oregon (15-9) 9:00 pm EST

EUGENE, Oregon (Ticker) - Washington State beat Oregon for the first time in 14 tries when the two teams met earlier this season.

On Saturday, the 20th-ranked Cougars will try to build on that rare win when they visit the Ducks.

Washington State (19-5, 7-5 Pac-10) has lost 21 of the last 23 meetings with Oregon, but posted a 69-60 victory on January 20, snapping a 13-game losing streak in the series. However, Washington State has not won at Oregon since 1995.

Cougars' leading scorer Derrick Low had 27 points in the first meeting and the senior scored 21 in Washington State's 70-57 victory over Oregon State on Thursday. Taylor Rochestie led the way with a career-high 24 points in the win over the Beavers.

The Ducks (15-9, 6-6) have won two straight games - after losing five of six - and are making a push in the conference standings.

Oregon, sitting in seventh place in the Pac-10, could move into a tie for third with a win Saturday.

Five players scored in double figures in Oregon's 70-57 victory over Washington on Thursday. Bryce Taylor led the way with 15 points for the Ducks, who made 14-of-25 3-pointers in the win.
