Top-ranked Memphis faces Tulane

Feb 20, 2008 - 2:21 PM No. 1 Memphis (25-0) at Tulane (15-9) 8:00 pm EST

NEW ORLEANS (Ticker) - There is one more obstacle for No. 1 Memphis to clear on Wednesday before Saturday's showdown with No. 2 Tennessee.

The Tigers (25-0, 11-0 Conference USA) face Tulane (15-9, 5-5) looking to defeat the Green Wave for the 14th consecutive time. Memphis has won five straight road games against Tulane.

The Tigers are coming off a rare battle on Saturday, scoring nine of the game's final 10 points to post a 79-78 victory at Alabama-Birmingham. It was the 44th consecutive regular season victory for Memphis.

"Every team we play comes out with a special level of inspiration," Tigers' coach John Calipari said.

Junior guard Chris Douglas-Roberts averages 17.5 points for Memphis and converted a 3-point play with 6.5 seconds left in the game with UAB - a game not decided until a last-second basket by the Blazers' Lawrence Kinnard was ruled to have come after time expired.

Senior forward David Gomez leads the Green Wave with 14.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Tulane, which has lost three straight, is 0-9 all-time against the No. 1 team in the nation and has lost 19 straight against ranked opponents.
