Kansas State making a move in Big 12

Feb 20, 2008 - 2:34 PM No. 25 Kansas St (18-6) at Nebraska (14-9) 9:00 pm EST

LINCOLN, Nebraska (Ticker) - Kansas State can forge a three-way tie atop the Big 12 Conference on Wednesday.

If the 25th-ranked Wildcats (18-6, 8-2 Big 12) can complete a season sweep of Nebraska (14-9, 3-7), they will join Kansas and Texas at the top of the conference.

"We're battling our hearts out to find a way to win this conference," first-year Wildcats' coach Frank Martin said. "For every game the next one becomes a bigger game. When you are trying to win a championship, regardless of who you are playing, that next game becomes the biggest game of the year."

Freshman sensation Michael Beasley, who is likely headed for the NBA draft, is averaging 25.7 points and 12.6 rebounds for Kansas State.

Beasley is one double-double away from tying Carmelo Anthony's NCAA freshman record of 22 set in the 2002-03 campaign. Beasley is coming off a 40-point, 17-rebound effort is the Wildcats' 100-63 home victory over Missouri on Saturday.

Kansas State has lost its last two conference road games, but is 3-1 in its last four games against the Cornhuskers.

Nebraska, which has dropped two straight, is led by senior center Aleks Maric at 16.2 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. The Cornhuskers are 11-3 at home.
