Duke remains atop AP Top 25 poll

Nov 16, 2017 - 6:17 PM Preseason favorite Duke remained No. 1 in the Associated Press Top 25 college basketball poll released Monday after winning its first two games.

The Blue Devils, who were No. 1 in the preseason poll, stayed on top of the AP's first regular-season poll of 2017-18 after getting another milestone for coach Mike Krzyzewski on Saturday night.

Freshman forward Marvin Bagley III produced his second big outing in as many nights with 24 points as Krzyzewski posted his 1,000th victory at the school with the Blue Devils defeating Utah Valley 99-69 on their home court in Durham, N.C.

"When you can share great moments, it's the best," Krzyzewski, who is 1,000-271 in 38 seasons with Duke, told the crowd after the game. "I've had a thousand moments to share with all of you."

Duke, which received 34 of 65 first-place votes from a national media panel, will meet No. 2 Michigan State (1-0) in Tuesday night's Champions Classic. The Spartans received 13 first-place votes, No. 3 Arizona (2-0) got 16 and No. 4 Kansas (1-0) had two.

Villanova moved up one spot to No. 5, followed by Wichita State, Kentucky, Florida, North Carolina and USC to round out the top 10.

Miami is No. 11, followed by Cincinnati, Notre Dame, Minnesota, Xavier, Texas A&M, Gonzaga, Louisville, Purdue, Northwestern, Saint Mary's, Seton Hall, UCLA, West Virginia and No. 25 Baylor.
