Duke hopes home game against St. John's stops skid

Feb 23, 2008 - 12:59 PM St. Johns (10-15) at No. 4 Duke (22-3) 4:00 pm EST

DURHAM, North Carolina (Ticker) -- After dropping a pair of conference road games in the past week, fourth-ranked Duke looks to get back in the win column against St. John's in non-conference action Saturday.

The Blue Devils had won 12 straight games before losing at Wake Forest on Sunday. Duke rallied to erase a 20-point deficit Wednesday but still fell short in a 96-95 setback at Miami.

Jon Scheyer scored a career-high 27 points in the loss, but the Blue Devils allowed the Hurricanes to shoot 57 percent (35-of-61) for the game.

"Our team, there is something missing this week," Duke coach Krzyzewski said. "We are not the same team these past two ballgames. It is almost like someone came in and invaded their bodies or something.

"I don't know if it's the time of the year, or if they took a deep breath, or whatever."

Duke should be able to turn things around against St. John's, one of the bottom-feeders in the Big East Conference.

The Blue Devils have beaten the Red Storm four straight times, including a 67-50 victory last season. The Red Storm had trailed, 34-10, at the half.

St. John's overcame a huge early deficit Wednedsday but still dropped its last contest, a 73-64 setback to Marquette.

Anthony Mason, Jr. leads the Red Storm in scoring at 13.8 points per game, and the junior scored 20 in Wednesday's setback.
