Marquette looks to pin seventh straight loss on Rutgers

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- No. 24 Marquette goes for its fourth consecutive victory Saturday against Rutgers in a Big East Conference contest.

The Golden Eagles (19-6, 9-5 Big East) currently sit in fifth place in the 16-team conference, a half-game ahead of Cincinnati.

Marquette grinded out a 73-64 triumph over St. John's on Wednesday, collecting its sixth victory in eight games.

Jerel McNeal scored 20 points while Dominic James chipped in 19 for the Golden Eagles.

Four starters are scoring in double figures for Marquette. McNeal averages 13.4 points, just ahead of sophomore forward Lazar Hayward at 13.3. Hayward averages a team-high 6.3 rebounds for the Golden Eagles, who are 6-1 in conference home games and 13-1 here overall.

The Scarlet Knights (10-17, 2-12) have lost six consecutive games, including a 71-68 home loss to No. 21 Notre Dame on Sunday.

Anthony Farmer scored 16 points to pace Rutgers, which fell to 1-6 at home in Big East play and 8-8 overall.
