Texas aims for seventh straight win

Feb 23, 2008 - 1:47 PM Oklahoma (18-8) at No. 7 Texas (22-4) 3:30 pm EST

AUSTIN, Texas (Ticker) - After avenging a rare blowout loss earlier in the week, Texas would like nothing more than to continue its recent dominance over one of its biggest rivals.

The seventh-ranked Longhorns will continue their quest to stay tied atop the Big 12 Conference standings when they host border-rival Oklahoma on Saturday.

Texas (22-4, 9-2 Big 12) is tied for first place in the conference standings with Kansas (24-2, 9-2), which also will be in action on Saturday at Oklahoma State.

One of the few low points this season for the Longhorns was an 80-63 loss at Texas A&M on January 30. However, Texas made up for that loss and then some on Tuesday, routing the Aggies, 77-50.

While sophomore guard D.J. Augustin was only one of two Texas players who finished in double figures with 27 points, the Longhorns held Texas A&M to just 30 percent (19-for-63) from the field.

The Longhorns, who have six straight games, will pursue their fifth consecutive victory over the Sooners.

The Sooners (18-8, 6-5) have been showing life lately after a slow start in the conference with three straight wins, including Tuesday's 92-91 overtime thriller against Baylor.

Sophomore guard Tony Crocker converted a four-point play with just over seven seconds left in the victory, just three days after senior guard David Godbold hit a 28-foot 3-pointer with less than two seconds left in a 66-64 win at Texas Tech.
